EU launches anti-dumping investigation on Chinese plastic bags

Recently, the European Commission decided to investigate the import of plastic bags imported from China to find out whether some Chinese plastic bag manufacturers exported plastic bags to the European Union through a Xiamen exporter, thereby avoiding high anti-dumping duties.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, the European Commission said that preliminary evidence already available indicates that some Chinese plastic bag manufacturers have adjusted sales models and channels and exported plastic bags to the European Union through Xiamen Xingxia Plastics Co., Ltd.

The European Commission is expected to complete the investigation by May 2011. If Xingsha Plastics Co., Ltd. evades anti-dumping duties, the EU will increase the company's anti-dumping tax rate.

Industry sources pointed out that the EU’s anti-dumping measures on Chinese plastic bags once caused strong resentment among EU retailers, because this move will raise the price of plastic bags in the EU market and increase the packaging costs of businesses.
