After recording its historically highest export freight record, the timber producer West Fraser Timber was eager to reduce the impact of the weak US market by further expanding its sales of wood to China.
The Vancouver-based forest company said on Friday that the record for the second quarter was that more than 30% of domestic production was destined for China and Japan.
The demand for wood in China has risen while the sales in Japan have stabilized.
Hanf Ketcham, Chief Executive Officer of Sifassa, said in a conference call on Friday that the company is excited about this growing market and will continue to use all the resources it needs to expand its operations in China and throughout Asia.
