How to Escape in the Earthquake

Strong earthquakes can cause serious damage, including the collapse of buildings, roads, and even the ground itself. These events can lead to significant loss of life and property. To stay safe during an earthquake, it's important to know how to react quickly and effectively.

1. If you're in a house when an earthquake strikes, immediately drop to the ground, take cover under a sturdy piece of furniture like a bed or table, and protect your head with a pillow, blanket, or any available item. After the shaking stops, evacuate the building as soon as it's safe and move to an open area. If the building collapses, stay put and don’t move until the tremors stop. Wait for help or escape once it's safe.

2. In a high-rise building, do not try to run outside during the quake—there's not enough time. Instead, seek shelter in the smallest, most reinforced space, such as a bathroom or kitchen. You can also hide under a strong table or in a corner, making sure to protect your head. Avoid areas near windows, balconies, or large glass panels that could shatter.

3. If you're in a classroom during an earthquake, remain calm. Students near the door should exit quickly, while those in the middle or back should take cover under their desks, using a backpack to shield their heads. Those near the wall should crouch down and protect their heads with both hands.

4. After an earthquake, avoid returning to your home immediately. Aftershocks can be just as dangerous as the main quake, so stay outdoors in an open space until officials confirm it's safe to return.

5. In public places like malls, theaters, or stadiums, stay calm and move to a safe spot—such as under a table, cabinet, or stage. Avoid crowded exits and stay away from hanging objects or glass windows.

6. If you're on the street during an earthquake, move away from buildings, trees, power lines, and bridges. Don't take shelter under structures that might fall. Stay in open areas until the shaking stops.

7. If you get trapped after an earthquake, stay calm and conserve energy. Try to clear debris from your chest and cover your mouth with a cloth to avoid inhaling dust. Signal for help by tapping on pipes or walls, and wait patiently for rescuers to arrive. Stay positive and keep hope alive.
