A new process for preparing aluminum-based amorphous coatings

[China Aluminum Industry Network] Aluminum-based amorphous alloy material not only has high specific strength, but also has good toughness, superplasticity, wear resistance and corrosion resistance, etc. It is a new type of structural material with broad application prospects. Aluminum-based amorphous alloy materials can be obtained by quenching or mechanical alloying, but the materials obtained by these methods are usually strips, wires, or powders, and these materials are prepared into usable block materials. Need some special molding process. At present, a method for preparing a bulk aluminum-based amorphous alloy includes a warm extrusion method, a hot extrusion method, a kinetic energy molding method, a powder rolling method, an injection molding method, an ultrahigh-pressure consolidation method, and an electric spark sintering method. All of these preparation processes can obtain relatively pure aluminum-based amorphous alloy materials, and have excellent performance, but these methods are too cumbersome, do not conform to the idea of forming and integration, and have a longer production cycle and cost. high.

Compared with the traditional preparation methods, thermal spraying technology has its unique advantages in the preparation of amorphous materials. The technology can not only rapidly heat up the melted material, but also has the characteristics of rapid cooling of the solidified material, which is conducive to the formation of amorphous phase coatings; and The use of thermal spraying technology can not only exert the advantages of high quality, high efficiency, and low cost in thermal spraying, but also obtain a surface protective coating with high-quality wear-resistance and anti-corrosion properties. Therefore, the use of thermal spray technology to prepare aluminum-based amorphous coating is a new extension of the preparation of aluminum-based amorphous alloy materials, and has broad prospects for industrial applications.

At present, the preparation of amorphous alloys by thermal spraying techniques includes plasma spraying, supersonic flame spraying and high-speed arc spraying. The materials used for plasma spraying and supersonic flame spraying are prefabricated amorphous powders, and high-speed arc spraying is based on the integration of material preparation and forming. Spraying core wires containing amorphous coating forming elements can be performed during the spraying process. Amorphous coating is achieved. Although high-speed arc spraying technology has been successfully reported in the preparation of Fe-based amorphous nanocrystalline composite coatings, the use of this technology to prepare aluminum-based amorphous coatings is still a new research field.

More recently, the aluminum-based amorphous nanocrystalline composite coating has been successfully applied to high-speed arc spraying technology in the Armored Forces Engineering College. The high-speed arc spraying system is mainly composed of a robot-controlled high-speed spray gun and a power supply system developed by the laboratory. The substrate sample was grit blasted before spraying. The optimized spray coating process parameters were: spraying voltage 34V, spraying current 120A, air pressure 0.7MPa, spray distance 200mm. The coating test results obtained show that the coating is well bonded to the substrate, the coating structure is dense, and the porosity is small; the coating exhibits a typical layered structure, and the layer-to-layer bonding is very dense; Crystal phase and crystallization phase together. The micro-hardness value of the Al-based amorphous coating is about HV311, which is comparable to the micro-hardness value of the aluminum-based amorphous alloy material obtained by the conventional preparation method. According to evaluation, this type of material is likely to become a future anti-corrosion coating material.

The work of the Academy of Armored Forces Engineering shows that in the high-speed arc spraying process, the molten droplets have a very high cooling rate during the flattening of the substrate surface, and it is easy to obtain an amorphous coating or an amorphous nanocrystalline composite coating, and the coating The deposition rate is high, the cost is low, and there will be an important application prospect in the preparation of large-area aluminum-based amorphous coatings.
