American Zoo built a solar carousel

According to the Washington Post, the Smithsonian's National Zoo recently built a solar carousel with hand-carved numbers representing a number of endangered animals.

The Speedwell Foundation, a private family foundation headquartered in Summit, NJ, donated $1.5 million to build the carousel, which cost a total of 230 carousels Ten thousand U.S. dollars.

It is reported that this carousel was named the Speedwell Foundation Conservation Carousel. The carousel was put into operation on Monday and it costs $3 per person. Ticket revenue will be used to support animal care and protection needs.

The carousel was powered by a total of 162 PV modules and was donated and installed by Pepco Energy Services. A zoo spokesman said that any excess electricity would be re-introduced into the zoo's power grid.

The carousel has a total of 58 animals, including elephants, pandas, frogs, hummingbirds, blue crabs, lions and other small animals.
