On July 31, 2013, Sharp announced the launch of five new transparent solar module products, expanding its range of innovative solar solutions. The company had previously introduced its first transparent solar cell module, the "NA-B095AA," in September 2012, marking a significant step forward in integrating solar technology into everyday structures.
The transparent solar cell modules are developed by etching thin trenches into thin-film silicon solar cells. Although these grooved areas do not generate electricity, they allow for a balance between power generation and visibility, making them ideal for installation in places like balcony railings, windows, curtain walls, and eaves—areas typically covered with glass.
Among the five new models, the NA-B07A and NA-B07B are smaller than the original NA-B095AA, making them suitable for open-ended apartment fences that prioritize ventilation. These models also feature improved anti-static performance, approximately 1.9 times better than the NA-B095AA, allowing for safe installation in high-rise buildings.
The modules come in two versions with opening ratios of 10% and 20%, offering flexibility depending on the application. The NA-B11A and NA-B11B are specifically designed to support a 1200mm column spacing commonly used in Japanese construction. They measure 1150mm in width, taking into account the space needed for wiring and window frames when connecting multiple modules. These models are well-suited for use in curtain walls and skylights installed in ceilings.
Additionally, the NA-B07A and NA-B11A are optimized for power generation, with a 10% opening ratio, while the other three models focus on light transmission with a 20% opening ratio. This allows customers to choose based on their specific needs and installation location.
