Site safety net damage high altitude throwing waste scared neighborhood

Recently, Ms. Lu, a resident of Dashisixiang in Hongqiao Street, Xiaobei Road, raised concerns about construction workers near her home who frequently throw debris from high places. Some of the stones and materials have landed in the narrow alleyways, causing residents to feel unsafe and uneasy.

The reporter visited Dashisixiang, a narrow alley approximately one meter wide. On one side stands the residential area, while on the other lies the nearby construction site that Ms. Lu described. Although no workers were seen on the scaffolding at the time, the site was located about two meters above the alley, with a "wall" made of scaffolding and safety nets. The safety nets were partially damaged or missing, leaving construction waste exposed. Gravel and cement blocks were scattered on the alley floor, and neighbors confirmed that these materials had been thrown from the site.

At the corner of the alley, a fence taller than one meter was installed along the railings. Mr. Xiao, a local resident, explained that this is where workers often toss construction debris. He pointed to a scaffold on the fourth floor, saying that workers frequently dropped scraps from there. Despite the barrier, some stones still managed to fall into the alley. A few days ago, a stone about ten centimeters in diameter fell into the area, and children often play nearby. Another neighbor expressed frustration, stating that the construction not only poses a safety risk but also makes the alley extremely dirty.

The alleyways have signs reading “Construction Ahead – Detour,” but many residents choose not to take the longer route. “Why force us to walk around when the construction company could implement proper safety measures?” one resident questioned.

The reporter then visited the sales office of the construction company. A female staff member acknowledged receiving complaints and said they had communicated with the sub-district office. She mentioned that the detour signs were placed at the request of the local government. When asked about the issue of debris being thrown from heights, she said the company requires workers to properly dispose of waste. “I will bring this up with the company and remind the workers to be more careful.”
