According to current data, the total production capacity of domestically built and planned projects is expected to reach over one million tons. However, industry analysts warn that this rapid expansion could lead to an oversupply crisis in the near future.
According to the latest statistics from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, the country imported 12.47 million tons of titanium dioxide in June alone. Industry experts note that approximately 85% of China’s annual titanium dioxide imports come in the form of chlorinated titanium dioxide, highlighting the critical role this product plays in the domestic market.
Yang Xun, a Titanium Dioxide Analyst at a leading company, expressed concerns about the growing number of projects launching in the chlorinated titanium dioxide space. Many firms are entering the market with the goal of reducing reliance on foreign imports. However, as these projects move into full-scale production, it's likely that supply will outpace demand within the next two to three years, leading to potential price pressures and reduced margins.
Yang Xun further pointed out that the market is already showing signs of overcapacity, and companies may be forced to look for alternative markets or applications for their products. This shift could result in increased competition not only in China but also in other global titanium dioxide markets.
Wang Xiangdong, Secretary-General of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, emphasized that while many companies are eager to jump into the chlorinated titanium dioxide sector, they must carefully evaluate several key factors before proceeding. These include the speed of project implementation, the level of technological expertise, and the overall cost efficiency.
