On the afternoon of March 7, 2014, the third council meeting of the 4th Jiangsu Machine Tool Industry Association was held in the "China Tool Town" at Xixiashu in Changzhou. Lin Guofu, Chairman of the Board of Jiangsu Yangli Group and President of the association's third board, presided over the meeting and delivered a comprehensive work report. Over the past year, the association focused on the key issues, hotspots, and challenges facing the machine tool manufacturing industry. In 2013, with the slowdown in China’s economic growth and shifting market conditions, the industry operated at a low level throughout the year. The overall market size contracted, and there remained significant mismatches between the industrial structure and product structure and actual market demand. Corporate profits continued to decline, competition intensified, and export growth remained sluggish. At the same time, long-term import growth also saw a sharp drop. To better understand the production status and import/export trends of the provincial machine tool industry, a discussion session was organized on July 22, 2013, in Nanjing. Representatives from companies such as Yangli Group, Jiangsu Yawei, Nanjing Second Machine Tool, Wode Group, Changzhou Chuangshengtel, Yangzhou Lichuang, and Nanjing Ningqing attended, along with officials from the Provincial Electromechanical Products Import and Export Office.
The association received strong support from the Provincial Department of Commerce. On December 5, an official signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Cooperation took place at the department. Mr. Lin Guofu traveled from Yangzhou to attend the event. The memorandum emphasized the importance of developing the machine tool industry as a key area for mechanical and electrical product imports and exports in the province. It aimed to promote industry transformation and upgrading, assist enterprises in exploring international markets, and encourage participation in major professional exhibitions, as well as the introduction of advanced technology and equipment.
To gain deeper insights into global machinery developments, the association jointly organized a delegation with the Provincial Textile Machinery Association to visit the Chicago International Machinery Design and Manufacturing Exhibition from September 11 to 23, 2013. A group of 18 members participated in this trip.
The association also took part in several government-related evaluations and certifications. This included the first batch of major technical equipment certification by the Provincial Department of Commerce, the evaluation of provincial-level enterprise technology centers by the Provincial Economic and Information Committee, and the assessment of brand-name products and well-known trademarks by the Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce. Several trademarks, including "YAWEI" (Jiangsu Yawei), "Tin Machine" (Wuxi Machine Tool), "Irrigation" (Guannan Die Casting), "Zhenzhen" (Jiangsu Qihang CNC), "Jianghai" (Jiangsu Jianghai), and others, were successfully certified as provincial famous trademarks.
In addition, the association actively facilitated business connections among member units and worked to expand market sales. Throughout the year, it acted as a matchmaker for four member companies, building bridges for collaboration and creating communication platforms. The association also published three issues of the "Jiangsu Machine Tool Information" magazine, which focused on promoting national industrial policies, analyzing domestic and international machine tool industry trends, and reporting on industry activities to enhance the province's influence in the sector.
As part of its efforts, the association organized a large exhibition space of over 2,000 square meters at the 12th China International Machine Tool Exhibition (CIMES 2014), providing high-quality services to its members.
Looking ahead, under the leadership of the provincial party committee and government, the association will continue to focus on scientific development, drive technological innovation, and strive to create new opportunities for the industry. The goal is to contribute significantly to the continued growth and development of the Jiangsu machine tool industry.
