On the afternoon of March 7, 2014, the third council meeting of the fourth term of the Jiangsu Machine Tool Industry Association was held in Changzhou Xixiashu, known as the "China Tool Town." Lin Guofu, chairman of Jiangsu Yangli Group and president of the association's third board, presided over the meeting and delivered a comprehensive work report. The details are outlined below.
Over the past year, the association has focused on key issues, hotspots, and challenges within the machine tool manufacturing sector. In 2013, amid a slowing domestic economy and shifting market conditions, the industry remained in a low operational phase. The overall market size contracted, and the mismatch between industrial structure and market demand persisted. Company profits declined, competition intensified, and export growth failed to recover significantly. Meanwhile, long-term import growth also saw a sharp decline.
To better understand the provincial machine tool industry's production status and product trade dynamics, a discussion session was organized on July 22, 2013, in Nanjing. Representatives from companies such as Jiangsu Yawei, Nanjing Second Machine Tool, Wode Group, Changzhou Chuangshengtel, and others attended, along with officials from the Provincial Electromechanical Products Import and Export Office.
The association received strong support from the Provincial Department of Commerce. On December 5, a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Cooperation took place at the department. Mr. Lin Guofu traveled from Yangzhou to attend the event. The memorandum emphasized the importance of the machine tool industry in the province’s mechanical and electrical product exports, aiming to promote industrial transformation, assist enterprises in exploring international markets, and encourage participation in major exhibitions.
To gain insights into global developments, the association, in collaboration with the Provincial Textile Machinery Association, organized a delegation of 18 members to visit the Chicago International Machinery Design and Manufacturing Exhibition from September 11 to 23.
The association also participated in several government-related evaluations, including the first batch of major technical equipment certification by the Provincial Department of Commerce, enterprise technology center assessments by the Provincial Economic and Information Committee, and brand recognition initiatives by the Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce. Several trademarks, such as “YAWEI,†“Tin Machine,†“Irrigation,†“Zhenzhen,†and “Jianghai,†were successfully certified as provincial famous trademarks.
In terms of member support, the association facilitated business connections for four member units, creating a collaborative bridge and communication platform. Throughout the year, three issues of the Jiangsu Machine Tool “Information†publication were completed, focusing on national policies, industry analysis, and event reporting to enhance the industry's visibility.
The association also played a key role in organizing a large exhibition space of over 2,000 square meters at the China International Machine Tool Exhibition (CIMES 2014), offering quality services to its members.
Looking ahead, under the leadership of the provincial party committee and government, the association will continue to focus on scientific development, drive technological innovation, and strive to create new opportunities for the industry, contributing to the ongoing growth of Jiangsu’s machine tool sector.
