Northeast China's first building construction safety experience hall unveiled

In a unique and interactive setting, construction site hazards such as falling objects, electric shocks, collapsing scaffolding, and unsafe holes are brought to life through immersive experiences. These simulated scenarios help workers internalize safety protocols in a more impactful way than traditional training methods. On June 25th, a reporter visited the first construction safety experience hall in Northeast China, located at the third managerial department of the Northeast China Construction Third Bureau. This facility is designed to provide hands-on training that makes safety education more practical and effective. No longer just theoretical, this approach ensures that workers gain real-life understanding of potential dangers on the job. The safety experience hall features a range of interactive modules, including helmet impact simulation, safety belt testing, hole drop experience, scaffolding stability tests, electrical safety demonstrations, and fire extinguisher practice. Each activity is designed to engage workers and reinforce the importance of following safety procedures. The facility can accommodate 200 to 300 workers per day, making it an efficient and scalable solution for improving safety awareness. According to Ding Dingjun, a manager at the Northeast Bureau of China Construction Third Bureau, the majority of construction workers in China are still migrant laborers who often lack proper safety training. Through these immersive experiences, workers are gradually transformed into more conscious and responsible industrial workers. During the helmet impact simulation, a worker donned a safety helmet and entered the experience area. A falling object was then dropped from above, striking the helmet and delivering a powerful message about the importance of correct helmet use. This kind of physical feedback helps reinforce safety habits that might otherwise be overlooked. Another popular feature is the mobile scaffold dumping experience, where participants feel the sensation of a tall shelf collapsing. “I was really scared,” said one worker after the experience. “It made me realize how important it is to properly secure the base of the shelves during construction.” According to officials, this experiential approach breaks away from traditional classroom-style teaching by simulating real-world risks, offering a more engaging and memorable learning experience. The head of the municipal construction committee noted that this method not only improves safety awareness but also enhances the overall safety culture on construction sites. The short yet impactful nature of these experiences allows workers to quickly grasp key safety concepts, leading to better compliance and fewer accidents. Moreover, according to the company’s representative, many migrant workers used to wear helmets incorrectly, thinking that simply placing them on their heads was enough. However, after experiencing the consequences of improper use, the actual helmet-wearing rate among workers has reached nearly 100%. This innovative approach to safety training is proving to be a game-changer in the construction industry, helping to reduce accidents and promote a culture of responsibility and awareness.
