Northeast China's first building construction safety experience hall unveiled

In a unique and immersive setting, construction site dangers such as falling objects, electric shocks, collapsing scaffolding, and unsafe holes are brought to life through interactive experiences. These simulated scenarios subtly embed safety awareness into the minds of participants, making them more conscious of potential risks on real job sites. On June 25th, a reporter visited the construction safety experience hall established by the third management department of the Northeast China Construction Third Bureau. This facility is the first of its kind in Northeast China, offering hands-on training that goes beyond traditional safety lectures. By engaging workers in real-life simulations, this approach makes safety education more practical and impactful, helping workers truly understand the importance of safety protocols. The hall features a range of experiential activities, including helmet impact tests, safety belt demonstrations, hole drop simulations, scaffolding experiences, electrical safety training, and fire extinguisher practice. Each activity is designed to train up to 200–300 workers per day, helping to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. As many construction workers are migrant laborers with limited safety awareness, these experiences play a crucial role in transforming them into more responsible and safety-conscious industrial workers. During one of the sessions, a participant donned a safety helmet and entered an impact zone. A simulated falling object was then dropped onto the helmet, vividly demonstrating the critical importance of proper head protection. Another worker experienced a mobile rack tipping simulation, standing on a platform nearly three meters high. “I was really scared—this made me realize how important it is to reinforce the base of such structures during construction,” he said. According to a manager from the Northeast Bureau of China Construction Third Bureau, the experiential approach breaks away from traditional methods, offering a three-dimensional learning experience that helps workers fully grasp the consequences of unsafe practices. “This kind of training is short but highly effective,” he added. “It significantly improves safety awareness and reduces the risk of accidents.” Another key point highlighted by the company’s representative is the change in behavior after the experience. Many migrant workers initially wore their helmets incorrectly, thinking the chin strap was just for comfort. However, after experiencing the real consequences of improper use, the actual wearing rate among workers reached nearly 100%. This innovative approach not only enhances safety awareness but also fosters a culture of responsibility and care on construction sites. It proves that when workers can feel and see the dangers firsthand, they are far more likely to follow safety rules and protect themselves and others.
