Police reminded: "Single" lock is not safe to upgrade as soon as possible

As the year comes to an end, it's also a time when thefts tend to increase. On the 3rd, the Taiyuan City Public Security Bureau issued a warning to residents, urging them to upgrade their door locks if they are still using outdated "one-line" locks, as these can be easily compromised by thieves.

According to the police handling the cases, over 60 incidents of technical lock-picking have been reported in Xinghualing District alone. In many of these cases, the rooms were ransacked, yet the doors and windows remained undamaged, with no signs of forced entry. The victims reported hearing no suspicious sounds during the break-ins. So far, the Taiyuan police have successfully dismantled three criminal gangs involved in "tin foil unlocking" and arrested nine suspects.

It has come to light that "tin foil unlocking" is a new technique used by criminals to bypass traditional door locks. These gangs target open residential communities, focusing on homes equipped with "one-word" security locks. Most anti-theft door locks available today are categorized as A-level or B-level based on their security performance, with some even labeled as "super-B-level." However, "tin foil unlocking" specifically targets common models and cannot open B-level locks. Since thieves prefer quick and easy methods, the police are advising the public to replace their lock cores as soon as possible to reduce the risk of burglary. They also emphasize the importance of staying vigilant and not giving criminals any opportunity to exploit weaknesses.

In addition, the tools used by these criminal groups were purchased online, and the Taiyuan Police are working closely with relevant authorities to control the supply chain and prevent further misuse. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take proactive measures to protect their homes during this high-risk season.
