On December 26, the State Administration of Emergency Management and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) jointly held a symposium on safety science and technology. The event focused on exploring the application of fiber optic sensing technology in critical areas of production safety, including coal mines, non-metallic mines, petrochemical industries, and emergency response. The goal was to enhance the overall capacity and level of safety production support.
Yang Yuanyuan, Deputy Director of the State Administration of Emergency Management, and Yuan Jie, Deputy General Manager of CASC, attended the forum. During the meeting, representatives from CASC provided detailed insights into the application of fiber optic sensing systems in safety supervision, the development of information management platforms based on this technology, and the ongoing advancements in fiber optic technology itself.
Officials from various departments within the State Administration engaged in in-depth discussions with CASC personnel, focusing on how fiber optic sensing could be integrated into regulatory processes. The conversation emphasized practical implementation and real-world benefits.
After listening to the presentations, Yang Yuanyuan commended CASC for its recent achievements in safety technology. He highlighted that the administration places great importance on technological innovation in safety production. With the recent instructions from Yang Dongliang, Director of the State Council’s Safety Commission, emphasizing the role of science and technology in improving safety, the application of fiber optic sensing is seen as a promising direction.
Yang pointed out that this technology can play a key role in prevention, early warning, and accident control. He also encouraged further exploration of its use in occupational hazard monitoring, such as real-time detection of gas and dust levels, which can significantly reduce health risks to workers.
Looking ahead, Yang outlined several key steps for future collaboration. First, both sides should work closely to implement fiber optic sensing as a major scientific research project. Second, the administration's departments should align their regulatory needs with the technology to ensure practical applications. Third, technical units must conduct thorough research on the current status of key industries and technological development. Finally, he called for continued cooperation in standardization and demonstration projects to improve China's overall safety production situation.
The event was attended by representatives from multiple departments, including the Science and Technology Planning Department, the Supervision Departments, the State Coal Mine Safety Administration, the Emergency Command Center, and the Communication and Information Center, as well as officials from the China Academy of Safety Production Science.
